#### Abstract

My aim is to defend a Neo-Kantian approach to some classical problems in the philosophy of mathematics, in particular with regard to the semantics of the basic formal mathematical languages. According to a widely shared view among mathematicians and (some) philosophers of mathematics, there is a metaphysical element in the semantic conception of truth of mathematical sentences: the postulation of a reality, of which those sentences are true. This is (in a nutshell) the opposite position with respect to the one I shall defend. I shall not attempt to refute this 'metaphysical' position directly; rather, my work should outline a very different, 'Neo-Kantian' view, in which the above metaphysical element naturally appears to be utterly irrelevant to the semantics of mathematical theories.
