Abstract

Much of the confusion surrounding Kant’s notion of an aesthetic judgment among interpreters stems from a parsimonious account of judgment. I suggest a synthetic model of judgment that would enable us to view some judgments as lacking in logical form. Aesthetic judgments, I argue, have a merely aesthetic, not logical, form. This means that they differ from logical judgments not in content, but in the manner in which they involve spontaneity and self-conciousness.
